The following article includes expanded information on the features in Affiliates - Settings.
In this article
Source Tracking
Use these settings to determine who receives credit for an affiliate referral.
First Affiliate Wins
This setting controls whether a customer can be reassigned from one affiliate to another after using their link or discount code.
Example: Max (customer) is already assigned to Simon, but purchases with Sally's affiliate URL.
Enabled
If the First Affiliate Wins setting is set to "yes," Simon, the first affiliate, will win, and the customer will not be reassigned to Sally.
Disabled
If the "First Affiliate Wins" setting is set to "no," Max will be reassigned to Sally, meaning the first affiliate does not win. If this setting remains "no" and Max clicks on Mary's link, he will then be assigned to Mary. This reassignment occurs each time a new URL is used.
First Source Wins
When this feature is enabled, a second visit to your site will never re-assign to a different affiliate, regardless of who referred it. If a customer's first visit is direct, with no affiliate URL, they are counted as a "Direct" source.
Enabled
If 'First Source Wins' is set to "yes", users will remain classified as a direct source even when they utilize an affiliate URL, meaning the affiliate will not receive any credit.
If they initially used an affiliate URL, switching to another affiliate URL will not result in reassignment to the second affiliate.
Disabled
If 'first source wins' is set to "no", customers can be reassigned between affiliates each time they use a new affiliate URL. However, they will not regain direct source status if they visit the site without an affiliate URL.
Coupon Override
Allows coupon codes to override the "First Affiliate Wins" and "First Source Wins" settings. This will reassign the lead to the designated affiliate for the initial purchase and all future purchases.
Note: If you enable "First Source Wins" and "First Affiliate Wins", it is effectively the same as enabling "First Source Wins" alone.
Let Affiliates Use Their Own Affiliate Link or Code
Enable affiliates to earn commissions by allowing them to click on their own links or their own code.
Coupon Code Tracking
For information on setting up discount codes for affiliates, please refer to our guide. It provides detailed instructions on how to create and manage affiliate codes and coupons.
Disable Affiliate Links & Use Discount Codes Only
To disable affiliate links, enable the setting to use only discount codes. Please note that this will not deactivate any previously used links or existing affiliate/lead associations.
Tracking length/frequency
Number of Months the Affiliate Referral Lasts
Select the number of months after the initial visit during which an affiliate can continue earning commissions. If you leave this field blank, commissions will be paid indefinitely.
Other Settings
Account-level affiliate settings include the ability to shorten affiliate links and set UTM parameters.
Shorten Affiliate Links
Use the lddy.no service to shorten affiliate links. All affiliate links will start with lddy.no instead of your website's URL.
